About Me
I was born and raised in Latvia and moved to Canada in 2013. In 2017 I completed a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in studio art at the University of Saskatchewan. I work primarily in photography but recently I begun to transition into installation art. My background of growing up in a post-Soviet Union setting and the lived experiences has developed my artistic practice based on a profound interest in human rights, social issues and exploration of the second hand experience of significant events in other people’s lives.
My focus is on recording testimonies from conversations with people and representing them through various media. Through the action of gathering an archive of testimonies and representing them I attempt to understand the suffering experienced by the disempowered and source of the unequal power.
In summer of 2017, I have been given the chance to combine my passion for art and traveling. With generous help I am visiting both London, UK and Venice, Italy. I am excited to see how other artists deal with issues I share an interest in and explore what is happening in the international art scene at the moment.
